According to new law, all registered estate agents will have to earn a NQF4 qualification in order to practice as estate agents in future.

Toy and Loraine Dupper of Dupper Properties made history together with ±600 other estate agents to become the first real estate professionals in South Africa to earn a NQF4-qualification. They officially received their certificates at a ceremony at UNISA on 10 March 2008.

They were trained by DITASA (Development and Training Academy of Southern Africa) and earned a total of 157 credits over a period of 3 years. “We are very proud to have been part of such a historical event and to be among the first agents in the country to be recognized as true professionals. It has empowered us in our quest to meet growing expectations in an increasingly sophisticated market” says Toy Dupper.

The academy, accredited by Services SETA, is fast becoming the leading accredited training academy within the Real Estate Industry of Southern Africa.According to regulation that will be publicised in the Government Gazette by the Department of Trade and Industry, the qualification is based on unit standards that represent a minimum of a 150 credits.

All new estate agents will have to undergo training and all practising estate agents have to write a professional exam before the end of 2013, if they haven’t been registered for a period of 5 years by 1 April 2008. Agents that have been working in the real estate industry for 5 years or longer still have to earn a NQF4 qualification before 2013 in order to stay registered but they don’t have to write the professional exam.
